India K is a 23-year-old photographer, installation artist and curator living in Brooklyn, NY.

After pursuing a strong interest in art and photography while obtaining her French Baccalaureate, India enrolled at Bennington College where she concentrated in the arts with an emphasis on photography, painting, and 20th century art. In the winter of 2011 she spent two months in Vienna researching the life of Gustav Klimt at the Belvedere Castle & Museum in anticipation of her senior thesis. India had her first solo exhibition on campus in the President’s Gallery in 2011. In 2012, she graduated from Bennington with a degree in art history and visual arts.

Her work explores the central theme of nostalgia. She is intrigued by the paradox of attempting to step into the same moment twice, despite the reality that we are unable to do so. Most recently, India explored the idea of longing by juxtaposing her written word against the landscapes of her hometown of San Francisco using large scale signs she had built. The work was purchased by Bennington College in 2012.

She is the founder and curator of Pitch & Rail, an arts organization that strives to bring young artists together and to the forefront. She has done work for numerous well known and international arts organizations including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, the Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume, and the International Center of Photography.
